The transition from licensed practical nurse (LPN) to registered nurse (RN) requires first and foremost the desire to better yourself as a nurse. As an RN you will have a larger area of responsibility and be expected to have mastery over a larger skill set. Becoming an RN will allow you a much greater degree of freedom in practice and allow you to concentrate on your desired of expertise in a much more effective manner.

The LPN to RN transition is one of the easier transitions to make in nursing since LPNs already have a good amount of field experience. Generally, transitioning from LPN to RN will involve completing an accredited RN program and then registering for, and passing the NCLEX-RN examination. Sometimes, however, current LPNs are able to waive a portion of the RN program, in some cases up to a full year, because of their previous experience as an LPN. These programs are widely available, online and in classrooms around the country.

Our country needs highly trained and educated nurses now more than ever. Not only is advancing your nursing career a great personal career move, but it will help to ease the healthcare crunch and make high quality healthcare affordable and available to everyone.
